Overview

Thaman El Rahil (The Price of Departure) is a Moroccan social drama that traces the journey of Jilali, a young man ground down by poverty in his remote village. Encouraged by his uncle and a city-dwelling friend who paint a brighter picture of urban life, Jilali makes the difficult decision to leave everything he knows behind. The city, however, proves far less welcoming than promised — a place of obstacles, hard choices, and sacrifices that test his resolve at every turn. The film is a thoughtful and honest exploration of rural exodus and the steep personal cost of ambition, capturing the tension between the dream of a better life and the harsh realities that await those who pursue it.
