Silence Along the River is a Kurdish documentary built around rare archival footage captured by Abbas Abdulrazaq, a former Kurdish fighter and cameraman, and father of the film's director. In 1985, he joined a Peshmerga unit on a mission to attack an Iraqi army camp in northern Iraq, crossing the Sirwan River by raft through territory held by Iraqi forces. The anticipated battle never came. In that suspended moment, he filmed his comrades singing together — a quietly extraordinary record of humanity persisting at the edge of war. The film meditates on memory, legacy, and the unexpected stillness found within conflict.
