Light and Shadows, the Last of the Pioneers: Nazih Shahbandar, is a 1994 Syrian movie, directed by Omar Amiralay and Ossama Mohammed. with a runtime of 42 minutes.
Light and Shadows is a Syrian documentary portrait of Nazih Shahbandar, a self-taught pioneer who began his career as an electrician before becoming one of the founding figures of Arab cinema in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1947, Shahbandar established a film studio equipped largely with machinery of his own invention, writing scripts, constructing sets, and developing innovative sound recording techniques. His ambition and ingenuity led him to produce and direct the first Syrian sound film, and he continued to dream of shooting in 3D. Part biography, part love letter to cinema, this documentary celebrates an unsung visionary whose contributions to Syrian and Arab filmmaking history deserve far wider recognition.
