A Plate of Sardines, is a 1997 Syrian movie, directed by Omar Amiralay, and starring Mohammad Malas. with a runtime of 17 minutes.
A Plate of Sardines is a short documentary by pioneering Syrian filmmaker Omar Amiralay, in which he reflects on his first encounter with the idea of Israel through the lens of personal memory. Alongside fellow Syrian director Mohammad Malas, Amiralay revisits the ruins of Quneytra, the Golan village occupied and abandoned following the 1973 war, turning the journey into a meditation on loss, occupation, and the stories we carry within us. Through recorded conversations, both filmmakers share their deeply personal experiences of the Israeli occupation, resisting the conventions of political documentary to offer something more intimate and self-critical. A rare and moving piece of Arabic documentary cinema.
