Mashkaleb is a Lebanese anthology dark comedy presenting four bitterly funny vignettes about a country perpetually on the edge. In the first, activists planning a protest collapse into internal squabbling. In the second, three sisters and their mother bicker endlessly as an incompetent plumber tears apart their apartment. The third follows Malek, a deeply depressed life coach who seeks help from a so-called "death coach" to end his life. In the fourth, a stand-up comedian's joke about a meteor saving Lebanon from its misery backfires when the meteor actually appears. The film is a sharp, absurdist portrait of Lebanese resilience through humour and collective despair.
