Overview

Mosul 980 is a harrowing Arabic drama that puts a human face on one of the worst atrocities of the ISIS conflict. A young Yazidi woman — one of 3,000 kidnapped from Mosul in 2014 and sold into sexual slavery — escapes by disguising herself as an ISIS fighter and emerging from the trunk of a car. She then navigates the rubble and remnants of urban warfare, caught in the dangerous interval between the end of major hostilities and true safety, with her persecutors still in pursuit. Unflinching and intimate, the film honours the survival of women whose stories the world has too often passed over.
