Overview

"Leila and the Cigarette" is a deeply personal Lebanese documentary in which filmmaker Leah travels to Lebanon in September 2011 to film her grandmother — unaware it would be their final time together. Just two weeks after filming ended, her grandmother passed away from metastatic lung cancer. It took Leah twelve years to summon the courage to revisit those recordings and face the last conversations they shared. Through an intimate blend of personal memories, poetry, and archival footage, the film constructs a loving portrait of a uniquely vibrant woman, celebrating her spirit and the indelible mark she left behind. A moving tribute to grief, love, and the healing power of remembrance.
