Overview

Who Loves the Sun is a documentary film that immerses itself in the world of improvised oil refineries operating across war-torn northern Syria. At its center is Mahmoud, a prominent figure in these informal operations, who navigates the treacherous working conditions, local power dynamics, and survival economics that define life in the region. The film offers a rarely seen human perspective on the Syrian conflict, documenting how ordinary people extract meaning and livelihood from dangerous, makeshift industry amid ongoing war. A sober and observational work that reveals the ingenuity and desperation running parallel to the violence that dominates international coverage of the Syrian crisis.
