Overview

Guerre sans Images is a documentary in which Algerian director Mohammed Soudani returns to Algeria after thirty years away, accompanied by Swiss photographer Michael von Graffenried. Together they seek out the Algerians that Graffenried had secretly photographed between 1991 and 2000 — during Algeria's devastating Black Decade of civil conflict. Meeting these same individuals decades later, the film becomes a profound meditation on memory, trauma, survival, and the invisible scars left on a society that emerged from years of brutal violence.
