Life in Darkness is an Iraqi drama set in Mosul on the day ISIS seized the city. Laith, a 22-year-old man, wakes on his birthday to a confrontation with his partner Mohanad, 27, who suspects him of being unfaithful. As the two argue and Mohanad storms out of the apartment in anger, he steps into a city already falling under militant control — and rushes back as ISIS begins raiding the residential building. The film telescopes the personal and the catastrophic, placing an intimate relationship crisis in direct collision with one of the most traumatic events in recent Iraqi history. A tense, compact drama about love, trust, and survival in the shadow of extremism.
