Gaza Calling is a Palestinian documentary about two families separated by an arbitrary line on an identity card. Samer lives in Ramallah in the West Bank while his family remains in Gaza — just one hour away, yet unreachable for six years. Mustafa traveled to visit Gaza in 2006 at the age of eighteen and was never permitted to return, leaving his mother Hekmat fighting for seven years to see her son again. Under Israeli rule, both families are deemed "infiltrators" in their own homeland simply because their ID cards list a Gaza address. The film is a quiet, heartbreaking testimony to lives lived through phone calls and internet screens, and the relentless human need to simply be together.
