Death Tunnel is a documentary film set in besieged Gaza, where residents have been forced to dig a network of tunnels beneath the border town of Rafah to bypass the total closure of all crossing points from Egypt. The film documents the dangerous underground economy that has become a lifeline for families, charting how the tunnels evolved from narrow passages into corridors wide enough to accommodate vehicles — and how that expansion has made the work ever more deadly. Israeli air strikes have killed over 400 Gazans working in the tunnels, including university students. A stark human-rights document, the film bears witness to the staggering cost that siege and blockade exact from an entire civilian population.
