Lion of the Island is a landmark Kuwaiti historical drama series filmed in 2006 across Kuwait and Syria, revisiting one of the most pivotal eras in Kuwaiti history — the reign of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah from 1896 to 1915. The series chronicles the major events that defined this era, including Sheikh Mubarak's rise to power, the Battle of Al-Sarif, the Battle of Hadiya, the campaigns against Youssef Al-Ibrahim, and the signing of the British-Kuwaiti protection agreement. Prominent Kuwaiti actor Mohammed Al-Mansour portrays Sheikh Mubarak, under the direction of acclaimed Syrian director Basel Al-Khatib, with a script by former Kuwaiti parliament secretary-general Sharida Al-Maousherji.
