Msaytbeh, the Elevated Place., is a 2024 Lebanese movie, directed by Rawane Nassif. with a runtime of 20 minutes.
Msaytbeh, the Elevated Place is a deeply personal documentary in which Lebanese filmmaker Rawane Nassif returns to her childhood neighborhood in Msaytbeh, Beirut, after a twenty-year absence. The area — whose name derives from the Arabic word for a raised platform — was once a vibrant, diverse community of secular leftists. Upon her return, Nassif confronts a neighborhood that has been radically transformed, its social fabric and communal identity reshaped beyond recognition. The film meditates on what time, war, and emigration do to the places we call home, and what it means to return to a community that no longer exists in the form you remember. A tender and politically resonant portrait of Beirut, memory, and belonging.
