The Outskirts is a Moroccan TV film that plunges into the daily struggles of a large, impoverished family living on the margins of old Casablanca. Under one roof we find Mokhtar, a gambling-addicted unemployed patriarch, his ailing wife Zineb, and Zineb's sister Souad who secretly supports them all through undisclosed work. Daughter Fatiha hopes marriage to her boyfriend Jawad will offer escape, while her younger sister Amina dreams of emigrating to Spain, and son Othman has turned to petty crime with his friend Bouchaib. When Mokhtar's brother arrives fresh from prison — now a political journalist — he begins drawing his articles directly from the family's everyday hardships. A layered social drama that maps Morocco's systemic inequalities through one household.
