Overview

The Thief is an Egyptian comedy film set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and its enforced curfew. An inexperienced young thief breaks into what he assumes is an empty apartment, only for the family to return home at the worst possible moment. Trapped inside with nowhere to run — and a citywide lockdown preventing any clean getaway — he must conceal himself from the oblivious residents in an escalating series of comic situations. The film mines dark humour from the absurdity of the pandemic era, placing its hapless protagonist in a pressure cooker where every attempted escape only deepens his predicament.
