Overview
The Sea Is Behind is a bold and visually striking Moroccan drama centred on Tarik, a young man living in a colourless, decaying landscape where the water itself is contaminated by a mysterious plague of water bugs. Cross-dressing, wearing make-up, and performing on a cart drawn by a dying horse, Tarik navigates a world that has largely abandoned him — including his own father. When his horse Larbi suddenly stops mid-procession and refuses to move, the moment becomes a catalyst for transformation. Tarik must learn to embrace the colours of his own existence as the only path of escape from the suffocating dullness of the world around him — a lyrical, unconventional film about identity, resilience, and the courage to live authentically.
