Saleh Gawdat

A contemporary Egyptian poet, born on December 12, 1912, Cairo. He died there in 1976 at the age of sixty-four years, full of singing for Egypt, love, and the Arab world. He showed signs of genius and signs of his poetic talent since he was a high school student. In Mansoura, he met the poets Ali Mahmoud Taha, Ibrahim Naji, and Muhammad Abd al-Muati al-Hamshari, as they happened to reside there either to work or study in the period from 1927 to 1931. Saleh lived through the 1919 revolution, and was moved by it, which refined his conscience and inflamed his spirit.
