Dorrya Ahmed

An Egyptian actress and singer, born into a Bedouin family, she took up singing at a young age. In 1941, she was certified as a singer on the Egyptian radio and married the author, producer and director (Al-Sayyid Ziada), who wrote many songs for her and nominated her to work in cinema. She became famous for performing the roles of the rural girl and the country girl, and played secondary roles, until 1950, when she obtained the absolute lead roles by playing the character (Khadra) in several films such as (The Adventures of Khadra) 1950, (Khadra and Sinbad the Tribe) 1951, and (The Deprived Lover) 1954. In 1956, she joined the Ismail Yassin theater group, where she presented the play (I Want a Millionaire) and retired from artistic work in 1967 after performing in more than twenty films. Among her most famous songs are (Arif, and the one who knows does not know), (Ali, Ali, who buys oil), (Give me, people, guide me) and (That's it, my heart, that's it). She died on February 7, 2003, following a delicate brain operation she performed in the French capital, Paris.
