Overview

Darkness (Zalam) is a quietly contemplative Arabic drama that weaves together three parallel nocturnal stories unfolding on the same city streets. Khalid, a young man, wanders late at night desperately searching for a lighter for his cigarette. Youssef, a simple, hungry man, steps out with a single purpose: to buy bread from a nearby shop. Meanwhile, Nabil drives aimlessly through the same streets, lost in nostalgic memories of a past romance. With deliberate minimalism, the film reveals that darkness is not merely the absence of light but the private inner world each person inhabits — longing, hunger, memory — in a city that never truly sleeps. A meditative portrait of urban loneliness and the small human needs that drive us into the night.
