The series chronicles the various adventures of journalist Spiro (dressed as a hotel waiter), his colleague Fantasio, and absent-minded inventor Count Champignac. Among the characters who appeared in this series and later had their own adventures were the marsupialami, a rare yellow mammal with a very long tail, and the lazy and foolish journalist Gaston Lagave.
