Where Did Ramses Go? is an Egyptian documentary directed by Amr Bayoumi, born from a moment of personal reflection in the wake of the 2011 January Revolution. Bayoumi recalls that in 2006 he personally filmed the monumental transfer of the Ramses II statue from Ramses Square — one of Cairo's most iconic landmarks — to its new home at the Grand Egyptian Museum, a journey through the city's streets that lasted over twelve hours. Using this extraordinary event as a cinematic metaphor, he draws parallels between the movement of a symbol of ancient authority and the contemporary relationship between power and the people, while also reflecting on his own bond with his father as a personal embodiment of that authority.
