Overview

Partition is an experimental documentary that reclaims Palestinian history from the margins of the colonial archive. Co-directed by Diana Allan, also co-director of the Nakba Archive, the film pairs found footage from British Mandate Palestine (1917–1948) with audio recordings of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Allan re-photographs the colonial 16mm material, layering it with story, voice, and song to powerfully reinsert Palestinian presence into imagery that once erased it. A formally inventive and politically urgent work, Partition confronts the violence of historical representation and insists on the visibility of those long rendered invisible.
