Overview
The Salt of Life is an Algerian historical drama that opens during the struggle for independence, when schoolteacher Wahib kills a French soldier at an anti-colonial protest and is sentenced to exile in French Guiana. After years of forced absence from his homeland, he escapes and crosses paths with Leopold, a Belgian diplomat bound for Damascus to serve as his country's ambassador to Syria. The unlikely friendship that forms between them on the road to Damascus anchors a story about displacement, freedom, and the shared humanity beneath political divides.
