L'Maktoub is a Moroccan romantic drama exploring the tension between family tradition and personal desire. When Omar El Maataoui's brother passes away, the family pressures Omar to marry his widowed sister-in-law in order to keep the inheritance within the household. But Omar's heart belongs to young Hind, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to his late wife. Hind, for her own part, faces mounting social and emotional pressures — including the collapse of a prior relationship once her suitor discovers her mother works as a folk singer. As Omar pursues her against his family's wishes, both characters must contend with a society in which fate, family obligation, and personal longing are locked in an unresolvable struggle.
