Overview

Les Vergers (The Orchards) is a Syrian documentary film set in 2015 Damascus, when the Basateen al-Razi district — along with its historic orchards — was bulldozed to the ground as collective punishment for the neighborhood's residents rising up against the ruling regime. Through the testimonies of two former residents who lost everything, the film becomes a meditation on memory, belonging, and erasure, capturing the profound grief of people forced to reckon with the destruction of the place they once called home.
