The End of Vacation is a documentary film set in the coastal Tunisian resort of Yasmine Hammamet, where the collapse of the tourism industry has left many hotels bankrupt. In a striking turn, some of these former holiday destinations have been sold to French retirement homes, filling their sun-drenched rooms with elderly residents, their loved ones, and care workers rather than vacationers. The film observes this peculiar community suspended in a ghost town that was built for joy but now hosts a very different kind of waiting. Melancholy and quietly surreal, The End of Vacation meditates on aging, endings, and the strange afterlife of places once devoted to leisure and escape.
