The 5th String is a Moroccan drama set in the old medina of Casablanca in 1999, following Malek, a passionate young oud player who moves in with his uncle Amir — a revered music master who promises to unlock for him the secret of the fifth string and the legacy of the legendary musician Ziryab. But as Malek's talent blossoms, Amir's admiration curdles into jealousy, and the mentor-student relationship becomes strained with rivalry and resentment. A chance encounter with Laura, a gifted young musician, reignites Malek's passion and gives him the courage to pursue his dreams on his own terms.
