Overview

KEN MEKEN, whose title translates as "Once upon a time" — the classic Arabic preface to oral storytelling — is a documentary that chronicles the lives and heritage of Arab communities living in the Anatolian region of Turkey. The film functions as an opening chapter to a broader narrative, using the timeless storytelling formula to frame the experiences of a diaspora community holding onto its language, traditions, and collective memory far from its ancestral homeland. A quiet and reflective work about identity and belonging across generations.
