Overview

Gowa El Bashar is an inspiring Egyptian documentary that follows the return of nun Celeste Khayate to El Menya, a city in Upper Egypt where she had founded a choral group a decade earlier. The film shines a light on the talented children and young people of the region who, in the shadow of terrorism and hardship, have found in music a form of defiance and hope. Through their voices and stories, Gowa El Bashar bears witness to the extraordinary power of art to sustain communities under pressure — a deeply human portrait of resilience, faith, and the enduring bonds between a devoted teacher and her students.
