Homemade Stories is a documentary by Syrian filmmaker Nidal Al Dibs, made after he and his family were forced to flee Damascus for Cairo as the Syrian revolution descended into war. In Cairo, Nidal turns his camera on Egyptian friends as they attempt the seemingly impossible task of reopening a long-shuttered cinema in their impoverished neighborhood. As their efforts stall, Nidal finds himself simultaneously managing the renovation of his family home back in a Syria torn by conflict. A film suspended between two homes, two cities, and two dreams both stubbornly held onto.
