Hani is an Egyptian drama film set between 1997 and 1998, two years after the mysterious disappearance of a young man named Hani. His friend Sahar discovers his videotapes and watches them as a way of rediscovering who he was and what they meant to each other. The tapes reveal Hani as a final-year university student living in Cairo with his family while his father works in Kuwait — a passionate metalhead and amateur photographer who documented everything: his room, his thoughts, his friend Sameer, and Sahar herself. Shot in a deeply intimate found-footage style, the film reconstructs a vanished life through the personal archive its subject left behind.
