Overview

Fathy Doesn't Live Here Anymore is an experimental film set in contemporary Cairo that takes an unusual point of departure: an old photograph of Bobby Anderson and Liv Ullmann from Ingmar Bergman's Persona, stuck to a bottle of shampoo. From this surreal image, the film unfolds as an adventure through the city in search of answers — giving shape to repressed dreams and unexplored desires. Blending cinephilia with personal quest, the work meditates on identity, borrowed images, and what it means to live a life defined by someone else's story. A singular, idiosyncratic work rooted in the textures of modern Cairo.
