Cairo 52, is a 2014 Swiss movie, directed by Dominique Birrer. with a runtime of 5 minutes.
Cairo 52 is a short animated film documenting one of the most controversial episodes in modern Egyptian history. In 2001, Egyptian police raided a floating nightclub on the Nile River and arrested 52 men accused of obscene behaviour in what became known as the Queen Boat case. Through the medium of animation, the film humanises the men caught in the raid, capturing the humiliation, fear, and injustice they faced in the aftermath of their arrests. Cairo 52 uses its artistic form to bear witness to an event that sparked international condemnation and became a focal point in debates about human rights, sexuality, and state power in Egypt.
