Overview

How Are You, Baba? is an Egyptian documentary that explores a father-daughter relationship stretched across decades and borders. For thirty years, "Baba" worked in Saudi Arabia while his daughters grew up in Cairo, separated by distance but connected through a steady stream of video messages. When the family is finally reunited, they find themselves unable to abandon the video format they relied on for so long — as if exile has left a permanent imprint on how they connect. The film is a touching meditation on migration, longing, and the surprising ways technology mediates love and intimacy within Arab families shaped by the Gulf labour experience.
