Overview

Awakening is a Syrian short drama set against the backdrop of the ongoing Syrian war, following Hala, a woman whose husband sells her wedding gown to fund his marriage to another woman, leaving her without a home or a future. She takes refuge with her friend Talla — only for the police to arrive and conscript Talla's husband into military service almost immediately. Left alone together, the two women settle into a shared silence, waiting for the return of what the war has taken from them. A spare, poetic film about the particular grief of women caught in conflict, shaped by loss and the unbearable weight of waiting.
