Overview

Family Secrets is a pioneering Egyptian drama and one of the first Egyptian films to openly address the subject of homosexuality. The story centers on Marwan, a young man from a middle-class family who struggles quietly with his sexual identity before eventually coming out to his sister. Her reaction sets in motion a chain of events involving religious counsel, psychiatric treatment, and intense social pressure, as Marwan is pushed to the limits of his endurance. Rather than taking a moral stance, the film focuses on the deeply human dimensions of Marwan's experience, exploring what it means to exist outside social norms in a conservative environment.
