Al-Zaeem is a Syrian historical drama set in Damascus during one of the Arab world's most turbulent transitional periods, spanning 1918 to 1948. In the aftermath of Ottoman collapse and on the eve of French colonial rule, six Damascene neighborhoods agree to elect a single supreme leader to unite them. But the promise of power proves corrosive — vested interests and opportunists stoke the fires of division, turning what was meant to be a moment of unity into a battleground of ambition and intrigue. Only a dramatic shared crisis can bring the fractured factions together again, making Al-Zaeem a richly layered portrait of Syrian society, resilience, and political identity.
