السلطان الحائر, is a 2009 Egyptian play, and starring Hanan Motawie, Mohammad Reyad. سيد الفيومي.
Al-Sultan Al-Ha'ir is a compelling historical drama play set during the Mamluk era, following a sultan thrown into existential crisis when word spreads that he was never formally emancipated by his former master — rendering his claim to rule legally suspect. Torn between two courses of action, the sultan must choose between the minister's counsel to silence dissent by force and the judge's insistence on upholding the law regardless of consequence. Resorting to the law means the unthinkable: the sultan must be put up for public auction to be purchased and freed. Ultimately choosing legal legitimacy over power, the play becomes a timeless meditation on justice, authority, freedom, and the rule of law — themes that resonate as powerfully today as they did in the Mamluk age.
