Overview

The Ferry is an Egyptian social drama set on the impoverished island of Dahab, where a deprived young man sees no legitimate path out of his circumstances and turns to drug trafficking in search of wealth and power. As his fortunes rise, he is confronted with a painful dilemma when his old friend — a decent man with modest ambitions who simply wants to marry the woman he loves — crosses his path. The film is a gritty, unflinching look at the choices facing Egypt's marginalized youth, and the human cost of a society that fails to give its young people fair opportunities to build a life.
