Relief After Hardship is a Kuwaiti historical drama series that revives the memory of the Year of Al-Hailaq — a catastrophic famine that struck the region between 1867 and 1870 during the reign of Sheikh Abdullah bin Sabah Al-Sabah. The word Al-Hailaq itself means destruction and perishing, and the series does not shy away from the gravity of those years. As a massive and unexpected drought devastated Kuwait's neighbouring regions, the series depicts how Kuwaiti merchants and wealthy citizens rallied together, donating resources to shelter and feed the thousands of afflicted people who converged on the Kuwait Wall seeking survival. It is a tribute to communal solidarity in the face of natural disaster.
