Overview
The Bolted Door is a Kuwaiti historical drama based on true events from 1831, when a devastating cholera epidemic swept through Kuwait and claimed thousands of lives. The story follows Fatima, the young wife of a resident of one of the few surviving households. Against all warnings, she insists on leaving the safety of the home to check on her family — only to find them all dead. When she returns to her husband's house and begs to be let back in, the family refuses to open the door, terrified of transmitting the infection. Fatima dies alone on the doorstep. The film is a harrowing portrait of fear, compassion, and the devastating human choices forced by epidemic disease.
