Overview

The Trees is a Lebanese dark comedy in which a plant scientist returns to his rural Lebanese village to attend his father's funeral and observe the three-day Greek Orthodox memorial rites. Caught between the weight of tradition, unprocessed grief, and family expectations, he makes an unsettling discovery: a mysterious pathogen is spreading through the village's trees. The film deftly interweaves ecological anxiety with the rituals of mourning and the suffocating grip of custom, building to a quietly absurdist portrait of a man caught between science and ceremony, the living and the dead, the natural world and human stubbornness.
