An Egyptian novelist and storyteller, born on August 6, 1916 in the village of Al-Dalatoun, Shebin Al-Koum District, Menoufia Governorate. He was greatly influenced by his father, as he read all the books in his library of heritage, history, and literature. He was also influenced by his father’s sessions with his friends and their discussions about faith, Sufism, thought, and literature. He received his education at Shubra Primary School, Al-Tawfiqia School, and Fouad I Secondary School. Then he traveled to Paris in 1936 AD and studied for one year at the Faculty of Medicine in Montpellier, France. Then he moved to the Faculty of Arts at the Sorbonne until 1940. During this period, the world of J. de Maupassant, one of the pioneers of the short story in the modern era, opened before him. He read to him in his original language. He also read the works of Emile Zola, Balzac, and Marcel. Proust), and upon his return from Paris, he began working in journalism by supervising the literature page in (Al-Masry) newspaper in 1947 AD, then in (Al-Shaab) newspaper from 1956 until 1959, then as a writer in Al-Gomhouria newspaper, supervising the committee for reading cinematic scripts in the Ministry of Culture, and head of the Theater Authority in the Ministry of Culture until 1976.
