Mahmoud Kamal Hassan

An Egyptian lawyer and novelist, born on July 8, 1906, in Zagazig. He obtained his baccalaureate in 1924. An institute in Zagazig began a writing journey. In 1923, he translated Robin Hood’s poems from English, the poems that recorded the famous historical story. After obtaining his baccalaureate in 1924, he moved to Cairo and joined the School of Law. It can be said that his second upbringing began from this date on Khairat Street in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood with His father, and one of his colleagues in law was Ahmed Abdel Majeed (the poet, the ambassador). His father was a lawyer and ran Al-Tarqi Press, which printed the book “Women’s Liberation” by Qasim Amin. He published his first collection of short stories, “The Rebels,” and published his book, “The New Theater.” He published two weekly magazines: “The University” and “The Egyptian Judiciary.” As for “The University” (1932-1948), it was the scene for his stories, some of his plays, and his articles. He named his collection of short stories “July 8,” and in the introduction to the second edition of the story “The Life of Darkness,” which appeared in 1936, he states that he was celebrating his thirtieth birthday, and it was later turned into a movie. The play “The Monsters” was performed by Youssef Wehbe and Zainab Sidqi and directed by Aziz Eid at the Ramses Theater on the night of 12/6/1926. One of his plays is “Fatima,” a drama in four acts. It was performed by the Fatima Rushdi troupe on the night of 11/30/1931 at the Azbakeya Theater and was printed by Al-Sabah newspaper as a supplement to it. He died in 1993
