The late artist Mahmoud Jabr was born in Jabal al-Arab, the city of Shahba in the Suwayda Governorate in 1935, and he grew up and educated in the Al-Midan neighborhood in the city of Damascus. He is from an artistic family that produced five artists, namely the late Mahmoud and his brothers Naji (Abu Antar) and Haitham and his daughters Laila and Marah. He is married to the artist Haifa Wassef, the sister of the distinguished artist Mona Wassef. The deceased's first love was the theater, where he founded with his classmates at Al-Midan High School (currently Abdul Rahman Al-Kawakibi High School) in the early 1950s, an amateur theater group, and in 1955 he presented his first comedy play entitled “Nasi Efendi,” and he became a professional theatrical actor in 1958, when he presented the play “Me, Torment, and Marriage.” Mahmoud Jabr's theater received great encouragement and interest from the public. The late artist's use of the spoken Levantine dialect to communicate with people contributed to its deepening and dissemination. Syrian Television and Damascus Radio also played a major role in its popular spread. Despite the comedic nature of Mahmoud Gabr’s plays, they were distinguished by their diversity. The late man presented the popular comedies (Aisha Half a Sleeve - La Ala Ala Ala Ala Khater - Hit Bal Kharj), classic comedies (Praxagora - The Noble Bourgeois), and committed works (The Green Perfume - Acting Director - Madame America - Why Did This Happen To Us). In cinema, he presented many works, including: (Cats of Hamra Street - The Postman - The Conqueror of Space)
