At a glance

Open Sea, is a 2016 Palestinian movie, directed by Ruba Salameh. with a runtime of 20 minutes.

Overview

Yamm (Open Sea) is a documentary art film set at a bus stop in East Jerusalem, where a billboard depicting the sea of Gaza serves as a fading backdrop to passengers waiting in an endless rhythm of daily life. Interweaving footage of commuters at the stop with archival images of the sea at Tantoura — a Palestinian village erased in 1948 — the film creates a poetic meditation on the fragmented nature of Palestinian geography, the weight of historical loss, and the quiet act of waiting. Yamm draws invisible lines between the present and the past, between the sea as memory and the sea as dream deferred.
