Overview

Woman of Steel is a documentary portrait of Um Mohamed, a resilient Jordanian mother of three living in Irbid, whose polio-survivor husband is unable to work. To support her family, she roams the city streets daily collecting scrap metal and recyclables, selling them in a male-dominated industrial zone. Though she has effectively become the family breadwinner, she receives little recognition for this role and is still expected to manage all household duties. The film is an unflinching, compassionate account of a woman navigating poverty, gender expectations, and invisible labor with quiet, extraordinary strength.
