Overview

Vivre Ici (Being Here) is a rich Tunisian documentary portrait set in the small southeastern town of Zarzis, where Simon, a Jewish grocer, has long served as confidant, healer, and living memory for his community. His modest shop becomes a gathering place for a vivid cast of characters: Tahar, the progressive teacher; Hadi, the tormented painter; Fatma, the matchmaker; and Béchir, the taxi driver. Together, they turn the store into a political and philosophical arena, each voicing their own vision of the world. A warm and deeply observed film about community, coexistence, and the enduring social fabric of a Tunisian town.
