Overview

Under the Palm Trees is a personal and intimate documentary that offers a candid window into the life of a young gay Egyptian man who was once among the filmmaker's closest childhood friends. Shot with quiet compassion, the film navigates the complexities of identity, sexuality, and friendship against the backdrop of Egyptian society. More than a portrait of one individual, it becomes a meditation on the bonds forged in childhood and how lives diverge along paths shaped by who we are. A tender and courageous documentary that humanizes an often-unheard experience in the Arab world.
